“Over Halfway Done” Celebration!

Have you seen your new synagogue lately? If you haven’t, you may be surprised to learn that it is more than halfway done!

Construction began slightly more than eight months ago, and we are scheduled to move in less than eight months from now – by April 1, 2008.

To celebrate the progress, the Steering Committee will host an “Over Halfway Done Party” on the site of our new synagogue at 29th Ave. and University St. on Thursday evening, August 30th, at 6:00 p.m. The celebration will feature guided tours of the site by Nathan Philips, our Project Manager.

Nathan has overseen all facets of the construction project, and will explain what has been done to create the foundation and walls for our new synagogue, and what will be involved in completing the project. You will want to take a few moments to enjoy the beautiful view from the temple courtyard, and to imagine attending a concert in the social hall or b’nai mitzvah in the sanctuary. In addition to guided tours of the facility, a status report on the capital campaign and an opportunity to enlist yourself in the efforts will be presented.

In the meanwhile, many community members continue to work “behind the scenes” to plan for our occupancy of the new synagogue. The work includes planning to move all the sacred objects and other items to the new synagogue, acquiring additional furniture, developing an operational security plan, and selling the Portland Street property, among other things.
