Talmud Tidbits: Debates, Discussions, and Eternal Questions
w/Zohar Wacks
Grades 4-7
Learning Talmud can seem overwhelming, but breaking it down into small parts shows us how the Talmud can apply to our everyday lives and decisions, even today in 2025! We will look in depth at five different “sugyot,” or passages, from different parts of the Talmud on topics from how to “properly” relax on Shabbat to questions like “who is wise?” and “who is mighty?” We’ll learn some details about kashrut (keeping kosher), and about how and why we observe our winter holidays the way we do. I want to hear what you have to say; why do we read this text so long after it was written? Should we still read it? Be ready to learn and argue (respectfully), because that is what we have done for thousands of years! We will incorporate fun hands-on activities and projects into our exploration of each topic.
