Community & Adult Education

Temple Beth Israel invites you to grow and learn with us!

Our diverse community has people from various faith backgrounds, and we always welcome interfaith families and visitors from other faiths. All of our listed programs are open to the public, regardless of religious background or affiliation - we welcome students from within TBI and from the larger community!

Prophets and Writings of the Hebrew Bible

Sundays, 10:00am, via Zoom

See our newsletter, This Week at TBI, for the Zoom link.

Learn about the Prophets and Writings parts of the Hebrew Bible. Deborah Green, professor of ancient religion, Bible, and rabbinic interpretation leads a weekly discussion on these two often overlooked sections of the Bible. Our hevruta (study group) reads together in English and explores one or two chapters each week. You need access only to a Jewish Bible in English, preferably the Jewish Publication Society translation, and an inquisitive mind.

Torah Study with Rabbi Ruhi Sophia

Thursdays, Noon, via Zoom
See our newsletter, This Week at TBI, for the Zoom link

All are welcome for an engaging discussion of this week’s Torah portion and how it impacts our lives.

Shabbat Torah Study

Saturdays, 8:45 am (8:30 am when b’nai mitzvah celebrated at Shabbat Services), via Zoom

See our newsletter, This Week at TBI, for the Zoom link.

All are welcome to join a lively exploration of the weekly Torah portion. All levels of experience welcome. Text study is done in English, with occasional close examination of the Hebrew text in an inclusive manner.

Library

TBI's Library

Looking for a good book or a quiet place to read? The TBI Library, located on the second floor across from the Talmud Torah office, is a wonderful resource for our community. Home to approximately 2,000 volumes, it is likely the only Jewish-based library in the area and continues to grow thanks to generous donors and dedicated volunteers.

The collection is thoughtfully organized by topic, making it easy to browse fiction and non-fiction alike. You will find a wide range of Judaic materials, including literature, life-cycle resources, Yiddish, Israel, poetry, and current issues in Judaism, with something to suit casual readers and researchers alike.

The library operates on a self-checkout honor system and offers comfortable seating for those who prefer to read on site. Programs and small services are also occasionally held in this inviting space. Monetary donations to support the Library Fund are always welcome and help keep this collection thriving.

We invite you to explore the shelves, settle into a chair, and enjoy all the library has to offer. Happy reading!
